One may think "roadkill", but there don't seem to be tyre marks on the road surface, or the extensive blood/fluid stains sometimes associated therewith.
Many hyena are killed by lion in KNP, and the slight suggestion of damage to the head and lower throat would suggest that this is what happened here. The lions normally don't eat the hyena, and just depart the scene.
