Male bengal tiger vs male gir lion
It was a good and peaceful day in the gir forest when most of the predators when to sleep and the birds were singing. The vultures meanwhile were feasting from a baffolo carcase left behind by a tiger from yesterday and it seems the tger had gone and eaten its fill not only that but a large male boar was also scavenging from the carcase too. It was amazing to see a boar doing some scavenging as it is rare. Little did the boar know he was going to become the victim soon. It was near sun set when the tiger returned to feast on his carcase. He was a larg male which weighed 500 pounds and though young, he is fully grown and a very aggressive specimen which is proven by the scars he bore due to fighting off other males during the mating season and killed the former territory holder in this region in an attempt to take over the area. He was essentially the most dominant male tiger for now. The tiger seeing a boar near his carcase crept up until he was only 100 metres from his prey and sprang forward and before the boar realised what hit him, the boar was already down on the ground with a tiger to his throat. The boar's thick neck prevented the tiger ffrom puncturing the jugular vain but was enough to hold the boar down until it loss stamina and the tiger wasted no time in dispatching his prey.
Outside the forest in the more open plains live a male gir lion. He weighs 425 pounds and is essentially the king of the plains.Male gir lions are less socialble and only come together with females to mate or to feed and the prides are smaller. Still, he is a dangerouse foe and an aggressive fighter and very tenecious when fighting with rivals. While tigers and lions in India seldom come into contact this is about to changed soon.
The next day the tiger whom had eaten a big chunk of his prey drag the boar carcase back to his den and slept, it took three days to consume the carcase. A few days later, on the open plains nearby, a large old bull gaur ventured into the plains and was feeding on the grass. That was when he was stalked by five female lionesses from all sites. This gaur weighs 3000 pounds and outweighs those lionesses ( each around weighing 250 pounds - the largest weighs 300 pounds) but their combined weight would surely overcome this m gaur. Those lionesses were careful in their approach as those horns could cause massive damage and a kick could easily cripple the jaw or a male tiger or male lion. Well, here goes nothing, the lionesses slowly advanced forward from different directions - cutting off the escape rout of the gaur when the gaur smelled them from all directions. The gaur panicked charge and ran pass one of the lionesses ( which happened to be the largest one) immediately to be pounced on by her and the cat bit into the ungulate's spine. Now a struggle ensured between a 300 pound lioness vs 3000 pound gaur - an animal ten times her weight. The gaur was shaking wildly and unless something was done the lioness may be shaken off but soon all the other four joined in and pounced on the gaur and one even bit at its muzzle. It was one hell of a fight bu finally, the gaur tired and let out its tongue immediately to be siezed by the lioness ( gruesome) which ended its life shortly. The gaur feels no pain due to the fact it was in shock thankfully.
The lionesses were so hungry that they wasted no time in feasting on such a huge prey. While they were enjoying their meal, the male lion came in and took possesion over the gaurcarcase for a while.
In the forest nearby, the bengal tiger smelled blood and investigated the open plains and saw the male lion feasting. The tiger advanced manacingly and tried to intimidate the smaller lion. However, to his suprise the lion didn't back off and although the lion was outweghed clearly by 75 pounds, he showed he was willing to fight to death to defend is food and territory. The male tiger however persisted and very soon both animals fed on the gaur side by side each snarling displasure ocassionally. Finally, the male lion could stand it no longer and charged the tiger which immediately stood on his hind legs and began swipping the lions face and nose which confused the male lion which back off but renewed his attack. The lion dodge the tiger's swipes this time and knock the tiger to the ground ( sending him off ballance) and pounced on him ( attempting to bite his throat). The tiger, however, used his forepaws to keep the lion's jaws away and used his hind legs which raked at the lions underbelly and forced him off. The male lion clearly suffered heavy scratches to the face ( though his mane soften the some of the blows) and he also suffered and wounded underbelly. The tiger on the other hand suffered some wounds to the chest and side.
The lion knew he might lose to his larger foe but he was willing to die trying which resulted in him making one last attempt but the tiger evaded and bit the lion in the throat but only caught a mouthful of hair. The tiger held the lion firm like that for a while ( the lion coudn't move) but remain tenecious. The tiger let go to alter his grip in whih the lion broke free and kncok the tiger down attempting to bite his throat again but once agian the tiger kicked him off with his hind legs ( injured his underbelly even more), the tiger then renewed his attack and this time bit the lion in the back knowing he couldn't bite through the mane and held the lion down with his forepaws. The lion roared in pain but there wa nothing he could do. The tiger finally shoke the lion's and broke his back resulting in the lion laying there paralyse. Seeing his foe could no longer move, the tiger proceeded to feed on the gaur carcase and today was victory of the tiger though he was inflicted with some wounds. The next morning the tiger was gone and had clearly retured to the forest where his home resides. As for the lion, he was eaten by a pack of dholes and the two lionesses did manage to enjoy the gaur carcase after the male tiger had left only to be driven off by a pack of aggressive dholes.
